RECENT EVENTS
We, the representatives of ASEM partners, representing various cultural, religious and civilizational heritages, gathered in Madrid on 7-8 April 2010 at the Sixth ASEM Interfaith Dialogue, under the theme of “The Consolidation of Religious Freedom and Mutual Knowledge of Societies through Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue” and
Regional Coordinator of United Religion Initiative (URI) Asia/Pakistan Rev James Channan has emphasised the need for promoting interfaith dialogue, saying that every society was a product of strong interaction between different cultures and faiths. He said that it was an admitted fact that all the religions of the world preach tolerance, peace and equality. (Source: Daily The Nation April 30, 2010)
Lahore: (25 March, 2010) The URI Pakistan organized a one day seminar to celebrate the International Women's Day on 8th of March, 2010. This seminar was organized at URI Regional Office in Lahore in which over 100 women and some men participated.
Its my joy to share with you a brief report on the two days workshop for the URI Coordinators in Pakistan which took place on 7th and 8th of March, 2010 in Lahore. I am sending list of the participants in the file attached. A few photos of this event will be sent separately. I will request Deepak to foward the photos to you.
The URI Women Wing Pakistan organized a one day seminar on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Hall of URI Regional Office in Lahore on 25th of November, 2009. Ms. Syedda Hina Babar Ali, a prominent social worker and human rights activist was the Chief Guest, whereas, Ms. Shumaila Kanwal, Prof. Ms. Hameeda Shaheen and Sr. Sabina Rifat, Coordinator, URI Women Wing Pakistan presented papers on this occasion. Ms. Ameena Hameed presented lovely songs in her melodious voice; children and staff of ABC (A Better Community) For All School presented tableaus and songs.
The United Religions Initiative along with Youth Parliament of Pakistan organized the celebration of International Day of Peace (IDP) . This program was organized on 26th of September at the URI Regional Office in Lahore, in which over 225 Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Baha’i participated in. After the offering of prayers from the Sacred Scriptures of various religions the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor were welcomed with flowers and balloon and with a good will banner which was flown in the air by these them. The message of Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of UN was read by Mrs. Jocelyn Saeed.
Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad from the Badshahi Masjid Lahore visited the San Francisco Bay Area on Saturday, February 13, 2010. He was recently the guest of US State Department and had traveled to Washington DC
