Report on the International Day of Women and Launching of URI Women Desk,Pakistan

A Message from Mr. Rev. Canon Charles P. Gibbs

Greetings of love and peace on behalf of URI’s global community! As you gather for your One Day Consultation and Orientation Workshop of URI coordinators in Lahore.
I salute your work to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings; and I offer my thanks for your leadership in the important work of building an ever stronger, more influential URI in Pakistan. Fr. James Channan has shared your agenda with me. I can imagine your deepening relationships and a sense of community through the Appreciative Interviews and building capacity by sharing your peace and interfaith activities.
It was a joy and a privilege to be with so many fine leaders of URI Pakistan at the Global Assembly in Mayapur, India. I am delighted that many of you will share highlights of that experience.

URGENT REQUEST for URI Humanitarian Relief to Displaced People in Pakistan

The number of refugees forced to flee from Swat Valley and adjacent districts has increased to 1.2 million. Their problems mount daily. As URI members we are particularly concerned about Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Baha’i refugees. Aid is scarce. These honorable people have no choice but to look to their brothers and sisters from Pakistan and the rest of the world for relief. They will appreciate and receive with thanks food items, tents or medicine in this most difficult time of crisis. We believe that solidarity with the URI global community will be a great gesture of our care and love for them.

Global Interfaith Grassroots Leaders

December 2008 – The United Religions Initiative (URI) held an unprecedented global gathering of 300 grassroots interfaith leaders, from 44 countries including over one hundred young leaders. From November 25th to December 6th, 2008, in Mayapur, India URI’s second Global Assembly was a combination of hard word and joyous celebration.
